Tesla has done it again. The long-awaited robotaxi, the Tesla Cybercab has finally been unveiled. Well, that was easy. All it took was years of speculation, social media teasers, and a few of Elon Musk’s trademark timeline adjustments. (sigh). I hope my sarcasm doesn’t hide how genuinely excited I am. It’s kind of like the Buzz about the 2025 Roadster. The Tesla Cybercab has arrived with a cool design that draws inspiration from the Cybertruck. And yes. The Cybercab is fully autonomous, without a steering wheel or pedals. The Tesla Cybercab will hit production in 2026, which means the earliest you can expect to drive one is mid-2026 or 2027. However, there is a catch! We have that and more in this article.Â
And unlike most robotaxi prototypes that remain inaccessible to the average consumer, the Cybercab will be available for private buyers for under $30,000. That means the Cybercab will be one of the most affordable autonomous EVs. Here is everything you should know about the Tesla Cybercab.
The Tesla Cybercab is Fully Autonomous
The Tesla Cybercab is exactly what we mean when we say bold leap forward in autonomous driving technology. As mentioned, the Cybercab doesn’t have a steering wheel or pedals. Even with the autonomous technology, the model doesn’t go all in with the futuristic cyberpunk outlook. Instead, the Cybercab has a minimalist, two-seater interior equipped with a large central infotainment screen. The interior is recognizable to Tesla fans.
Now here’s the catch: Tesla needs regulatory approval before it can start producing and selling a vehicle with no manual driving controls. Despite this hurdle, Tesla’s Full-Self Driving (FSD) system will operate without human supervision as early as next year. According to Tesla, the Cybercab will go into production in 2026, about the same timeline we expect the Rivian R3 and R3X.
While Elon Musk admitted that production might stretch into 2027. He is always optimistic timelines with his timelines. Musk is confident the Cybercab will be on the market within a few years.

Design and Exterior Features
The Tesla Cybercab shares several exterior design elements with the Tesla Cybertruck. Kep features of the Cubercab include the full-width LED light bar across the front and sharp creases along the hood. It also has the familiar angular lines seen on other Tesla models.
The best and most unique features of the Cybercab are the butterfly doors. These supercar-inspired doors are meant to make entry and exit easier. Only time will tell how practical they are in everyday use, like navigating through a crowded supermarket parking lot.
In keeping with Tesla’s obsession with aerodynamics, the Cybercab also boasts solid aero covers on the wheels. These improve efficiency and squeeze out a few extra miles of range. And because the vehicle is built for full autonomy, the Cybercab doesn’t have traditional mirrors or even a rear window. After all, who needs to look back when your car drives itself?
Powertrain and Range
The powertrain and range of the Tesla Cybercab remain a mystery in 2024. Tesla hasn’t disclosed any specific figures regarding how far the Cybercab can travel on a single charge. ,
From what we’ve seen Tesla do with its high-efficiency electric vehicles, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. It’s likely the Cybercab will feature an impressive range, but we’ll have to wait for official specs to know for sure.

Autonomous Tech at Its Core
The Cybercab has Tesla’s most advanced autonomous technology yet. It has the latest version of Full-Self Driving (FSD), which Tesla plans to roll out in unsupervised form next year. With no steering wheel or pedals, the Cybercab relies on a vision-based system for navigation. However, regulatory approval will be key to making Tesla’s dream of a steering-wheel-free future a reality.
During the unveiling event, attendees had the opportunity to experience test rides of the Cybercab.
Bonus Reveal: Tesla Robovan
In true Tesla fashion, the unveiling of the Cybercab wasn’t the only surprise of the event. Elon Musk also introduced the Tesla Robovan, an all-electric, fully autonomous bus designed to transport up to 20 passengers or large quantities of goods. The bus features a more futuristic design with large glass side panels and LED lighting.
Like the Cybercab, the Robovan will be part of the Tesla Network, an upcoming autonomous ride-hailing service.
