15 Awesome Reasons To Buy The 2024 Volkswagen Passat

The 2024 Volkswagen Passat Estate joins the wagon market segment with a futuristic appeal, a new eHybrid powertrain, and lots of standard tech features. For the first time, Volkswagen offers the 2024 Passat with a mild-hybrid engine, which comes with DC Rapid Charge Compatibility. Unlike the previous model years, the 2024 VW Passat is only available in a wagon form. This ninth-generation Passat continues its legacy with sophistication and innovation. This post shares the top 15 best features of the Volkswagen Passat, and why you should consider buying it.

Built on the MQB EVO platform, the 2024 Passat stretches 193.5 inches in length, with a 690-liter boot capacity and an impressive drag coefficient of 0.25Cd – another first. Engine options of the Passat 2024 range from a 1.5-liter eTSI mild-hybrid gasoline unit to plug-in hybrid models offering up to 62 miles of electric range. The model also features DCC Pro adaptive suspension dampers and advanced technology features. For the 2024 model year, the Passat Variant rivals the Mercedes C-Class Estate, the Skoda Superb Estate, and the BMW 3 Series Touring. Offered in Life, Elegance, and R-Line trim levels, the pricing of the 2024 VW Passat starts at £38,480.

Here are the top 15 reasons to consider buying the 2024 Volkswagen Passat.

1. Elegant Exterior Design

One of the 2024 Passat’s standout features is its sleek and sophisticated design. Drawing inspiration from the electric VW ID cousin, the Passat comes with a refined exterior styling and aerodynamic profile. It looks elegant and eye-catching, no matter the angle. And, like the ID, the B9 Passat has a futuristic finish, evident via the squared-off edges and cool Matrix LED lighting technology.

The 2024 Passat showcases a refined exterior with a long, sleek body, sharp lines, and a smooth face, giving it a more streamlined appearance. At the rear, the Passat features a full-width light bar. If you’ve been paying attention to the brand’s recent design language, you’ll note that the light bar features on many of VW’s latest cars, including the T-Cross small SUV. And to clarify, the 2024 Passat is not available in a sedan form, only a wagon.

Additionally, the Passat badge is now spelled out in letters on the tailgate, enhancing the overall refinement. Standard 17- or 18-inch wheels complement the design, while 19-inch rims are available. The aerodynamic efficiency of the new Passat is impressive too. The 2024 Volkswagen Passat has a drag coefficient of 0.25Cd. This makes it the most aerodynamic estate car the company has produced yet, surpassing its predecessor’s claimed figure of 0.31Cd.

2. Enhanced Size

With the introduction of the B9 Passat Variant, the 2024 model is larger than ever, growing by 5.7 inches in length and 0.8 inches in width.

The VW Passat is now 193.5 inches long and  72.9 inches wide, with a height of 59.2 inches. Unlike the length and width, the height remains unchanged from the predecessor.

3. Modern Interior

Aside from the dimensions, the 2024 Passat‘s wheelbase has grown by 1.97 inches to 111.8 inches. With the expanded dimensions and longer wheelbase, the new Passat offers a spacious and comfortable interior.

Plus, the 2024 Passat’s trunk/boot size has been significantly increased by 40 liters to 690 liters of storage space – one of the largest in its class. With the rear seats folded, this space expands even further by 140 liters to an impressive 1,920 liters.

4. Sophisticated MQB Underpinnings

The 2024 VW Passat shares its MQB underpinnings with the next-generation Tiguan, which is also called the Tayron in other parts of the world.

The Passat B9 shares the MQB platform with the new Golf Mk8 facelift. Thanks to the MQb platform, the Passat Variant 2024 is larger than the European-Spec B8 version.

5. DCC Pro Adaptive Suspension Dampers

As mentioned, the new Passat is underpinned by the MQB EVO platform. This new Platform comes with DCC Pro adaptive suspension dampers connected to the B9 Passat’s Vehicle Dynamics Manager and driving mode selection. These dampers, featured in DCC Pro-equipped models, offer improved ride quality and handling.

6. Engine Variety

The Passat Variant 2024 powertrain lineup includes a 148-horsepower 1.5-liter eTSI mild-hybrid gasoline engine and a larger 2.0 TSI gasoline engine that produces 201 hp in FWD and  261 hp with the 4Motion all-wheel drive.

Diesel enthusiasts can opt for the 2.0 TDI engine, which produces 121 hp and 148 hp in FWD flavors and up to 190 hp with the AWD option. Additionally, Volkswagen offers plug-in hybrid variants, known as “eHybrid” models, providing impressive electric range and environmentally friendly driving options. In terms of acceleration, the 2024 VW Passat can go from 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds.

The 2024 Passat’s 1.5-liter mild-hybrid petrol engine pairs a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Unlike the ordinary CVT counterparts, the Passat’s dual-clutch provides smooth and responsive shifting, as we have seen on the Volkswagen Tiguan and the latest Golf R.

8. Plug-in Hybrid Option (eHybrid)

For 2024, Volkswagen offers the B9 Passat Variant with multiple Plug-in hybrid options. The first hybrid configuration combines the 1.5-liter with a 48-volt mild-hybrid motor. Thanks to the setup, the hybrid Passat produces 148bhp and 250Nm of torque.

Later this year, VW will add two eHybrid powertrains to the 2024 Passat, which will deliver 201 hp and 268 hp. Both of these options will combine the iconic 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 19.7kWh battery that previously powered the Passat Variant Estate model. The Passat eHybrid models offer impressive performance and efficiency, with up to 62 miles of electric range and fast-charging capabilities, says the brand.

9. DC Rapid Charge Compatibility

There are many firsts on the new B9 Passat. One of those firsts concerns its charging abilities. According to VW, the 2024 Passat eHybrid models offers DC rapid charge compatibility. Thanks to this tech, the Passat will be able to receive a 50kW feed, which is interesting. With a full tank of gas and a charged battery, the Passat 2024 can travel approximately 621 miles before needing to refuel.

The long driving range makes the B9 Passat perfect for road trips, as long as you are not tempted to drive it off-road.

The collect feature of the best features of the B9 Passat is its fuel economy. Yes. The 2024 Volkswagen Passat returns a fuel efficiency of 51.8 MPG, which is awesome.

As we mentioned, the Passat 2024 has a mild-hybrid powertrain. On top of that, the mild-hybrid setup features Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus), which allows the engine to shut down when not accelerating.

The 2024 VW Passat is available in three trim levels: Life, Elegance, and R-Line. Each of these models offers distinct features. Buyers can customize their B9 Passat wagon according to their preferences.
