The 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe L is making its way to the scene with subtle yet impactful design changes on the inside and outside. From the previous models, the new edition of the famous sedan is a step forward. Thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, photos and videos of the latest 2025 2-Series Gran Coupe L are out. But, wait. China? Yes. BMW is releasing the new 2-Series Gran Coupe in China. As an updated 2-Series Gran Coupe rides on the newest version of the BMW Group’s UKL platform. The Chinese audience can expect a blend of familiar design elements and market-specific adaptations.

While the European market is focussing on electrified models, the Chinese market’s 2-Series Gran Coupe will be available in gas-powered versions. On Powertrain options, there is a 172-hp 1.5-liter, a 224-hp 2.0-liter, and a 330hp 2.0-liter. This new model represents a significant evolution of the 2-Series Gran Coupe. The 2-Series Coupe competes with the Audi A3, Toyota Camry, and Infiniti Q50. There is, of course, a lot to expect from the new Coupe. The 2-Series Coupe L highlights include X2-inspired taillights, 1-Series front-end design, and an extended wheelbase. Here’s everything you should know about the new Gran Coupe L.

A Longer, Sleeker Design

The latest Gran Coupe L looks stylish and aggressive. The 2025 2-Series Gran Coupe L has adopted the front-end styling of the 1-Series hatchback. Its redesigned rear draws inspiration from the X2 crossover.

The most notable difference in the Chinese BMW 2-Series version is the extended wheelbase, denoted by the “L” suffix. The European variant has a shorter wheelbase. This extended wheelbase on the Chinese Gran Coupe is 4.3 inches between the axles. This makes the extended Grand Coupe more spacious for rear passengers—a feature highly valued in the Chinese market.

2025 BMW 2-Series L New Dimensions

For 2025, the Chinese BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe L measures 2,780 mm (109.5 inches) in wheelbase length. Compared to the outgoing model, the new Gran Coupe L measures a length of 4,663 mm (183.6 inches). It extended 5.4 inches beyond the outgoing model. While these dimensions are unique to the Chinese market, the standard-wheelbase version for North America, Europe, and other regions might also see a slight increase to better compete with its Chinese counterpart.

Aesthetic Upgrades

BMW made subtle design changes to the 2-Series Gran Coupe L in 2025. The doors now feature flush handles. The beltline at the Hoffmeister kink has been flattened, which gives the Gran Coupe a more streamlined appearance. While the 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe L’s front borrows a design from the 2025 BMW 1-Series hatchback, the rear end features LED taillights inspired by the X2.

Spy shots and patent drawings suggest that the Western market will have both regular and M-Package trims available for the 2-Series Gran Coupe. However, the Chinese-spec 2-Series Gran Coupe L comes standard with a sportier body kit.

Powertrain Options: China vs. Europe

Under the hood, the 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe L is underpinned by an updated version of BMW Group’s UKL platform. This platform is shared with the 1-Series, X1, and X2.

In China, the 2025 2-Series Gran Coupe L car will be offered with three gasoline engine options. The 220L version has a 1.5-liter engine with 172 hp, the 225L version has a 2.0-liter engine with 224 hp, and the M235L variant has a 2.0-liter engine with 330 hp.

In contrast, the European market is expected to focus more on electrification. The performance-oriented M235 xDrive is likely to feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine from the M135, capable of producing up to 312 hp.

BMW 2-Series Production

The 2025 BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe L will be manufactured in China through the BMW Brilliance joint venture. Meanwhile, the standard 2-Series Gran Coupe will continue to be produced in Leipzig, Germany.
