New Volvo EX30 Faces Recall for Software Problem

New Volvo EX30 Faces Recall for Software Problem

Almost all of the 72,000 EX30 units that Volvo has produced are affected by this latest EX30 Software Recall problem. The Volvo EX30, an all-new electric SUV for the 2025 model year, is already facing a significant recall due to software issues. The 2025 Volvo EX30 Software recall is related to a software glitch in the vehicle’s central screen. This glitch could cause the speedometer to enter test mode, preventing drivers from seeing how fast they’re going.

The 2025 EX30 is among the top Compact Electric SUVs on the market. In a recent comparison, I compared the EX30 to the Hyundai Kona. For the 2025 model year, the EX30 also competes with the Kia Niro EV and the Mini Countryman. As an all-new model, the EX30 Software recall paints a bad picture of Volvo’s flagship electric SUV. But, hopefully, this will be the last recall of the EX30.

The Volvo EX30 Infotainment System

The EX30’s interior features a Tesla-inspired 12.3-inch central display, which serves as both the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. With the Software Problem, this screen malfunctions, and disrupts essential vehicle functions like speed monitoring. This makes the issue a safety risk.

Volvo Addressed the EX30 Software Problem

The corrections of this EX30 Software Recall are simple. Volvo has addressed the problem by offering an over-the-air (OTA) software update to fix the glitch. Owners can either complete the update on their own when prompted or visit their local Volvo dealership for a free update. Fortunately, no injuries or accidents related to the software issue have been reported.

Software Concerns Began Before The EX30 Release

Aside from this particular EX30 software recall, this isn’t the first time the EX30 has faced software challenges. The electric SUV’s initial launch was delayed earlier this year due to similar concerns. Interestingly, despite issuing a recall affecting 72,000 units, reports show that Volvo has only sold 35,000 EX30s. This means that 37,000 unsold units are still awaiting resolution.

Though the 2025 Volvo EX30 isn’t yet available for purchase in the U.S., customers can reserve one with a $500 deposit, with deliveries expected to begin this summer.
