2025 Fortuner Review: Hybrid Power, New Tech & Premium Upgrades

The upcoming 2025 Toyota Fortuner is a next-generation facelift with a lot of updates. From the same brand that makes the reliable Toyota Hilux, the Fortuner comes with major improvements in the design, technology and performance too. And, of course, the SUV brings its tried-and-true 2.7-liter and 4.0-liter engine options. Just as I predicted in the 2025 Hilux, the new Fortuner is offered with mild-hybrid powertrains and enhanced driver assistance systems. Aside from the powertrain, Toyota is preparing a package that’s tough on the outside and smart on the inside, with features like 17-inch alloy wheels on the exterior and high-quality fabric seats on the inside.

The Toyota Fortuner has been a staple in the SUV market, in countries like Kenya, Malawi, Zambia and Nigeria. It is particularly loved in the UAE. This is an SUV that’s known for its rugged reliability and diesel power. For the 2025 model year, premium Legender variant is also getting major updates, including possible hybrid 4×4 capability, according to Toyota UAE. The 2025 Fortuner starts at $34,821 or $545/month (lease). We’ll talk about that and more.

The 2025 Fortuner Performance And Powertrains

Under the hood, the 2025 Fortuner will continue to offer the 2.7-liter four-cylinder and the more powerful 4.0-liter V6 engine options. While both of these options will get you anywhere you need to go, the latter can take on more things you throw at it, as long as you don’t mind filling up the tank often. If you want to save at the pump, the 2.7-liter engine is a good starting point, and should be enough for the typical buyer.

But what really stands out is Toyota’s move toward electrification. In 2025, the Fortuner is expected to introduce a mild-hybrid 4×4 powertrain. This is a major step toward better fuel efficiency and lower emissions without sacrificing the Fortuner’s rugged DNA.

2025 Fortuner Exterior Design & Colors

As you would expect, the 2025 Toyota Fortuner has a tougher, more refined look. At the front, it has a redesigned grille and silver bumper accents, which give the SUV a more upright look. These are subtle changes, but they improve the Fortuner’s street appeal. Other key updates to the Fortuner include the updated allow wheel designs (17-inch standard) and the distinct styling cues for the legendary trim.

The Legendary variant, in particular, features unique design elements that set it apart from the standrda models. These are special feature like the exclusive color accents, grille design and interior finishes aimed at a premium experience.

On the color front, Toyota is introducing fresh paint options to the Fortuner model in 2025. These color options are:

  • Sparkling Black Crystal Shine
  • Platinum White Pearl
  • Phantom Brown
  • Silver Metallic
  • Super White
  • Attitude Black
  • Avant Garde Bronze

Interior Technology And Features

For the 2025 Fortuner, Toyota is bringing practical upgrades to the infotainment system and in-cabin experience. Across the range, buyers can expect a more connected driving experience with lots of standard features. Key technology features include the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple Carplay & Android Auto, and a 4.2-inch multi-information display on base trims.

HIgher trims, especially the legendary variant, will include a wireless phone charging pad, smart entry & start system, a 360-degree surround camera system, and ventilated front seats.

Safety & Driver Assistance

With the 2025 update, Toyota is reinforcing the Fortuner’s reputation here, especially with the upgraded safety systems. The SUV will include Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), a suite of active driver aids previously reserved for the brand’s higher-end models. Top safety features in this package includes blind-spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, multiple airbags and an enhanced braking and traction control system. These additions put the 2025 Fortuner more in line with international safety expectations.

Across the line-up, the 2025 Fortuner Legendary trim will once again serve as the coupe deville of the Fortuner family with its refinements and luxury offerings. The best feature of the Fortuner is the possible mild-hybrid 4×4 powertrain. While not a full hybrid, this system will likely boost fuel efficiency and torque.
