The 2025 Volvo EX30 enters the electric compact SUV market with a stylish and sustainability-focused design. Coming from the same brand that makes the S90, this EX30 electric crossover slots beneath the C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge in Volvo’s lineup. The 2025 EX30 will likely appeal to buyers looking for a premium EV experience in a more compact package.

As Volvo’s newest entry-level EV, the EX30 offers modern features performance, eco-friendliness, and chic Scandinavian minimalism. Competing with the Polestar 2, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Kia Niro EV, the EX30 has a 64.0-kWh battery that can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes with a DC fast charger. 

The 2025 Volvo EX30 is available in a 268-horsepower Single Motor Extended Range model and a 422-horsepower Dual Motor Performance. While the former has a 5.1-sec 0-60 time, the AWD dual motor variant can accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, making it Volvo’s quickest SUV. In addition to the single and dual motor variants, a Cross Country EX30 version may join the lineup later. 

What’s New for The 2025 Volvo EX30?

The EX30 is a new nameplate for Volvo and will join the brand’s growing electric fleet. It uses the “EX” prefix, which Volvo has reserved for its next-generation electric models. 

Set to go on sale in the summer of 2024, the EX30 will complement the larger EX90 SUV, offering a more accessible entry point into the electric SUV market.

2025 EX30 Powertrain Options: Single- and Dual-Motor Choices

The 2025 Volvo EX30 is available in two powertrain configurations: Single Motor Extended Range and Dual Motor Performance. Each of these offers a distinct driving experience. 

The Single Motor Extended Range version is powered by an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, with 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. Volvo estimates a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds for the 2025 EX30 Single Motor version. It’s enough acceleration for city driving. 

The Dual Motor Performance version is an all-wheel drive with a motor on each axle. This AWD EX30 variant delivers 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the single-motor version, the AWD model can accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds. This makes it Volvo’s quickest SUV to date.

Both models come equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. They also have a balanced chassis that offers agility on twisty roads, even with the firm ride on 19-inch wheels. A Cross Country version may join the lineup later, promising more ground clearance and rugged looks, though it’s unlikely to feature serious off-road gear.

Range and Charging: Up to 275 Miles Per Charge

All versions of the 2025 Volvo EX30 have a 64.0-kWh battery pack. With this power pack, Volvo says the rear-wheel-drive Single Motor model can achieve up to 275 miles on a full charge. On the other hand, the Dual Motor Performance model delivers 265 miles of driving range per charge. 

Both the single-motor and dual-motor versions of the 2025 EX30 can utilize DC fast charging at a peak rate of 153 kW. With these fast-charging benefits, drivers can recharge the EX30’s 64.0-kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes.

2025 Volvo EX30 Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

The 2025 EX30’s Single Motor Extended Range model has EPA ratings of 104 MPGe in the city and 127 MPGe on the highway with the 19- and 20-inch wheels. 

With the 18-inch wheels, these figures drop to 103 MPGe in the city and 124 MPGe on the highway. These numbers are competitive with other small electric SUVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV.

2025 Volvo EX30 Interior

The 2025 EX30 EV’s interior utilizes recycled materials. One upholstery option consists of denim waste. Others are crafted from flax and a wool alternative is sourced from recycled polyester. These eco-friendly touches complement the minimalist Scandinavian design, creating a stylish yet responsible driving environment.

One notable feature inside the EX30 is the relocation of the glovebox to the center of the dashboard beneath the infotainment screen. This makes it easier for the driver to access. The cup holders fold away when not in use. The 2025 Volvo EX30 has cozy bucket seats that add to the SUV’s luxurious yet functional feel.

2025 EX30 Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2025 EX30 features a single vertically oriented 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Taking inspiration from Tesla’s approach to infotainment, this screen serves as both the gauge cluster and infotainment hub. 

The EX30’s infotainment touchscreen system is powered by an updated version of Volvo’s Google-based interface. It includes Google Maps for navigation.

The 2025 Volvo EX30 has a unique sound system, a sound bar stretching across the base of the dashboard. This unique sound system replaces the traditional array of speakers throughout the cabin.
