The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is among the top choices in mid-size luxury sedan segments, rivaling the BMW M4. Available in a 255-hp hybrid E 350 4Matic trim and 375-hp E 450 4Matic form, the new E-Class offers a refined driving experience. For 2024, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class brings an S-Class-inspired design, advanced MBUX infotainment system, and robust safety features. In addition to the sedan’s standard spec, the 2024 E-Class offers the Superscreen Package, the Driver Assistance Package, and the Airmatic package.

Despite the market’s shift toward SUVs, the E-Class remains a critical part of Mercedes-Benz’s lineup. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the latest iteration of a midsize luxury car line that has been a cornerstone of the brand for over 75 years. As always, the new E-Class brings the best luxury, performance, and technology. Here’s an in-depth look at what makes the 2024 E-Class a standout in its segment.

Overview and Models

The redesigned 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes in two sedan variants: the E 350 4Matic and the E 450 4Matic.

Mercedes-Benz will offer a station wagon version of the E-Class called the E 450 4Matic All-Terrain later in the year.

Prices of the 2024 E-Class Sedan range from $63,450 to $69,250, including a $1,150 destination charge.

Exterior Design

Drawing inspiration from the flagship S-Class, the 2024 E-Class exterior design features sleek, modern lines and a more dynamic profile.

Notable exterior features of the new E-Class include retractable door handles that extend when the key fob is nearby. The operation of the retractable door handles can sometimes be finicky. Once you’re done with the learning curve, you’ll get used to them just fine.

Luxurious Interior

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers a luxurious interior design, with lots of technology features to go with it. The cabin has top-notch materials, with options such as Tonka Brown Nappa leather and Natural-grain Brown Maple wood trim.

While all seats provide comfort, the front seats are highly adjustable via touch-sensing controls on the door panels. However, fine-tuning these settings can be challenging.

The rear seats provide lots of space and comfort, despite the slightly awkward entry caused by the long hood and rear wheel wells.

Infotainment and Technology

The best feature of the 2024 E-Class is the next-generation Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system. Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display and a 14.4-inch center touchscreen. The E-Class sedan’s infotainment system supports natural language voice control, and biometric authentication. It also offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For 2024, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is available with an optional MBUX Superscreen Package, which adds a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. The MBUX Superscreem package also includes a dashboard-mounted camera for video conferencing, and access to a range of apps including TikTok, YouTube, and Zoom.

What makes the E-Class Sedan’s MBUX system special? Well. First, the system has a zero-layer menu structure, which makes it intuitive and easy to use. The digital voice assistant is particularly impressive, responding quickly and accurately to commands. However, it can sometimes activate unexpectedly, which might feel intrusive.

Powertrain, Performance, and Driving Experience

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes in 255-hp hybrid E 350 4Matic trim and 375-hp E 450 4Matic. Both offer lots of power and good driving experience. I particularly love the hybrid engine because it is efficient and in a way that doesn’t impede its performance.

The E 350 4Matic is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This turbo 2.0-liter in the 2024 E-Class pairs with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Like in Toyota’s Active Sport Corolla model, the mild-hybrid system enhances the sedan’s performance and efficiency. Equipped with the 255-hp 2.0-liter turbo and 48-volt mild-hybrid, the 2024 E-Class sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, which should be adequate for most drivers.

Those desiring more power should opt for the E 450 4Matic version of the 2024 E-Class, which has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. As a top dog in the powertrain lineup, this engine feels powerful every time you step on the gas pedal. With the 375-hp 3.0-liter turbo, the 2024 E-Class accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Both models come with a nine-speed automatic transmission and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

Airmatic Package

Aside from the Driver Assistance and the MBUX Superscreen Packages, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class also offers an Airmatic Package, which includes an adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

The Airmatic Package provides a smooth and controlled ride, whether in Comfort or Sport mode. The adaptive suspension adjusts to road conditions. This way, the system minimizes body roll, giving you a more stable drive quality

Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2024 E-Class comes with a lot of advanced safety equipment. Standard safety features include Pre-Safe technology, which prepares the car and occupants for a potential collision, and a suite of driver assistance systems like forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.

For 2024, the E-Class is available with an optional Driver Assistance Package, which adds more safety features, such as Pre-Safe Plus and Pre-Safe Impulse Side, which prepare the car for rear and side impacts, respectively. The E-Class Driver Assistance Package also includes adaptive cruise control, active steering assistance, and expanded emergency braking capabilities.

Cargo Space

The trunk of the E-Class sedan offers 19.1 cubic feet of cargo space, though this figure seems optimistic given the trunk’s actual usability. Nevertheless, it can comfortably accommodate full-size suitcases.

Fuel Efficiency

In terms of fuel efficiency, the E 350 4Matic is rated at 27 mpg in combined driving by the EPA. During real-world testing, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class achieved 23.8 mpg, which is slightly below the expected figure.

The E-Class has a 17.4-gallon fuel tank, providing a maximum range of around 414 miles, although practical refueling will likely occur at around 375 miles.
