The 2025 MG HS Has 207-HP PHEV Setup And 6-Speed Manual

MG Motors recently introduced the second-generation 2025 HS SUV for the UK market. Premiered at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the new HS was one of the highlights of the whole event.  The PHEV 2025 HS is a stylish, capable, and practical UK crossover that rivals the RAV4 and Honda CR-V SUVs. Now in its second generation, the MG HS offers a fresh design, featuring sharper lines and styling cues that point to the Roewe RX5. The HS competes with the RAV4 and the Honda CR-V. This post shares a detailed look at the MG HS SUV. I will walk you through the crossover’s interior features, specs, hybrid powertrains, and performance.

The MG HS SUV is available in internal combustion engine (ICE) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions. Pricing for the 2025 MG HS starts at $32,187 for the ICE gas-powered version and $40,557 for the hybrid-powered version.

Exterior and Dimensions

The new redesigned HS SUV has a sportier front end and sharper lines. At a glance, the second-gen HS appears to share many elements with the Roewe RX5, which is already available in China. However, the brand hasn’t yet been confirmed. These shared features between the HS and the Roewe RX5 include the lighting units and sheet metal profile. Unlike the Roewe RX5, the HS distinguishes itself with a unique grille and sportier air intakes.

In terms of size, the second-generation MG HS SUV measures 4,655 mm and 4,670 mm in length, with a 1,890 mm width. For 2025, the HS features a 2,765 mm wheelbase, which has been extended by 45 mm compared to the previous generation. This added length contributes to a roomier cabin. With these dimensions, the HS slots between the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.

MG HS 2025 Interior and Technology

MG HS 2025 Interior Front Cabin Steering Wheel Infotainment system

The 2025MG HS SUV’s interior is a spacious and tech-forward environment. The new HS offers seating for five with a generous 507-liter trunk/boot capacity. The most eye-catching interior feature is the dashboard, which features dual 12.3-inch digital displays, an infotainment screen, and a cluster display screen. For the 2024 MG HS, the center console features a new shuttle-style gear shifter.

In addition to the 12.3-inch infotainment system, the 2024 HS comes with a standard Wireless charging pad, 360-degree camera, and 8-speaker audio system. The SUV also features the MG Pilot ADAS package for enhanced driver assistance

2025 MG HS Powertrain Options

The 2025 MG HS offers two powertrain choices: a gasoline option and a PHEV variant.

The HS PHEV version has a 141-HP 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a more powerful 207-HP electric motor, with a combined output of 348 horsepower.

With this setup, the plug-in hybrid HS can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.8 seconds. For 2025, the PHEV version has a 24.7 kWh battery, providing an electric-only driving range of up to 75 miles (121 km).

The gas-powered 2025 HS SUV is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, with 168 HP (125 kW / 169 PS) and 275 Nm of torque.

Swift Transmission Systems

For the 2025, HS, buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The HS is only available with front-wheel drive (FWD). No all-wheel drive. So, keep that in mind when sifting through the compact SUV market.

2025 MG HS Pricing

The 2025 HS SUV is among the most affordable SUVs on the UK market. The gas-powered ICE version starts at **£24,995 ($32,187), while the PHEV model begins at £31,495 ($40,557).

Verdict

The second-generation MG HS brings a lot of improvements to the already-loved SUV. One of the key selling points of the new HS is its competitive pricing. Even with the updated styling and additional features, the HS remains affordable. Compared to its rivals in the 2025 SUV market, the HS is an ideal option. It’s a solid value proposition; being a budget-friendly gasoline-powered model or efficient PHEV SUV.
